Free Cards Friday, Harry Potter ~ shared things, Valentine's Day

Good Afternoon!

It's Free Cards Friday! Comment on this post (here at the blog or on my Facebook page) and be in the running to win some cards ~ I'll choose the winner on Monday.

We just got back from the Portland Children's Museum, then playing outside with kites and friends, it was very fun. It occurs to me that it is 2:30pm and the house is still clean from last night's after bedtime blast! Wow - it pays to get out and get active vs staying at home and tearing the place apart :)

We have been reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I'm reading it to my boys and we are all having so much fun. Spending hours at a time cuddled together on the bed, the beanbag or couch, reading and experiencing it together.

I find myself getting into the voices and characters, and have to slow down to make sure that they understand ~ which they seem to ~ and if I stop to say "how are you doing?" or "are you following me okay?" my 4 year old bangs on the book and raises his eyebrows saying "go on, go on!!"

Today, my 5 year old has been saying Leviosa! testing out his Wizard powers! He made the garage door raise, so I was impressed :)

Having something we can all three share has been very special (thank you to my friend for loaning us the book). And knowing there are many books and many pages ahead in the series makes me feel happy.

I recently read somewhere: If your child has a thing for video games (enter your child's interest here) and you do not have an interest in video games (same interest), you have just missed an opportunity to have a shared thing.

I like that.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, just hanging out and enjoying your moments. I am packing paintings in my studio, preparing for some shipments and in general getting things cleaned up.

This weekend brings Valentine's Day and despite the fact that I am a woman, (I'm talking to you: every jewelry, flower and candy store) not all of us want candy, roses or some bling ~ what I desire is comfortable times, a good meal together and time to relax :)

Happy Valentine's Day to you!

Love & Sincerely ~ Katie

Love Art Gallery Grand Opening

Let me tell you about Love Art Gallery...

There is a passion that flows through this gallery ~ the second you walk up the purple steps.

The family that has created, designed and presented Love Art Gallery to the world are the type of individuals that I try to surround myself with, those I feel an instant connection with.

Ruby and Heather wrapped their passion and kindness around me and my work, even through the first emails in which they inquired about my paintings.

The evening of Friday, June 5 was the Grand Opening for Love Art Gallery in Sellwood (Portland) Oregon.

The renovated historic building in the shopping district was bursting at the seams with energy, artists, shoppers, sparkly beverages, fresh truffles and Buddhist chanting by Thom.

Every last fragment of this lovely building has been thoroughly attended to – from the garden sculpture to the purple entry steps, to the light switch plates, through to the artwork gracing the bathroom walls.

I invite you to come and experience the joy, the tenderness, the artwork and the spirit at Love Art Gallery.

8036 SE 13th Avenue (on the corner of 13th and Spokane) 503.954.2656
loveartgallery@comcast.net Ruby, Heather, Ted, Christopher

The gallery is open Tuesday - Thursday from 10am–6pm, Friday and Saturday from 10am-8pm, Sunday from 11am-5pm, and is closed on Mondays. Open by special request/appointment.

Have a great week my friends!
Love & Sincerely, Katie

Nurturing New Relationships

I recently met a woman over the phone who generously and spontaneously called to tell me her fondness for my work - it was wonderful visiting with her and she shared her interest in purchasing several originals. She carefully chose the titles that best suited her and we made plans to talk in a couple days.

The "old" me would have considered those pieces "sold" and began celebrating (only to be let down, annoyed and confused later), but the more experienced me (I learn something new every day about the business of art and business in general) appreciated the time she took to call and chat, contemplated how friendly she was and wondered why more people didn't just pick up the phone when they wanted to send a message!

We spoke again and she indeed was still in love with several pieces and chose to purchase several prints while saving up for the originals. I thanked her for her generous order and we vowed to keep in touch. I really like her and I feel so blessed to have begun this relationship.

My point here is to sort of congratulate myself for, but also share the value in, not counting one's chickens before they hatch, and with art - it is all about relationships.

I realize that I have been that excited person on the other end of the line a few times, eager to get those hardwood floors in (half a year ago) and deeply interested in a local artist's sculpture for my bedroom wall ~ I was genuine, but things change, values change and although I still adore both the sculpture and the floors, the time just isn't right.
